I’ve compiled a handy guide below which should help you make the right purchasing decision. They are entirely separate tools and depending on your circumstances, one will fit you better than the other depending on what you want from your drum tracks. Toontrack have done a fantastic job at developing both EZDrummer and Superior Drummer 3 (following on from, you guessed it, Superior Drummer 2), both have great drums sounds, but you might be wondering whether Superior Drummer is worth the extra cash. You can also go through the presets in SD3 and find something similar and then copy the mixer settings and processing to your own. It’s a huge subject so I suggest you read up on drum processing. Sd3 has a large amount of processing options specifically designed for drums. It works really well and I use it on quite a few kits that only have two, three and 4 toms so I can fill out my 5 toms on my ekit. SD3 has a feature where if you tune a drum it will process it to sound natural. You can also add as many drums as you want and tune them so you can have 20 rota toms if you want that many. Is it possible to get 8? Also, how am I going to get the exact same sounds (pitch and effects)?Any pitch is possible with SD3 as you can change it.
